Faith in Action

Good Shepherd is a tri-parish school, supported liturgically by Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Santa Cruz, Resurrection Catholic Community in Aptos, and Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church in Capitola.  We welcome Father Romeo Evangelista as our newly appointed Pastor at Resurrection.  The school’s Catholic identity is enriched through the vision and spiritual direction of the three parishes.

Student-Led Masses and Prayer Services:
To promote and maintain our Catholic identity, mass is celebrated monthly and school wide liturgies are held weekly.
Each class coordinates with the children's religion instructors and homeroom teacher to plan and host either one of the monthly Masses or the series of weekly Advent and Lenten prayer services.  Students actively participate by leading prayers, serving as lectors, and singing in the choir. School parents and parishioners are invited to attend these student-hosted masses.
Daily Prayer:
Prayer is an important expression of faith. Students engage in prayer at the beginning of each day at morning assembly, prior to lunch, and at the end of the school day.
Family of Families - Sacramental Program and Community Building:
Students in 2nd grade participate in a First Eucharist Preparation Program at their parish (Resurrection, St. Joseph's and Our Lady Star of the Sea).  These students are celebrated with a beautiful outdoor mass in May, followed by a community building reception.
Middle School:
Junior High 7th and 8th grade students participate in day long retreats held off-campus. These events provide opportunities for community building, reflection, and celebration.
Faith in Action - Community Service Programs:
  • All classrooms are given opportunities to serve non-profit agencies in the area.  These programs provide and monitor opportunities for students to serve the community, thereby encouraging a sense of responsibility and compassion for those in need.
  • Agencies we serve:  Adopt a Family - Giving Tree, St. Vincent de Paul Food Panty, St. Francis Soup Kitchen, LGD Alliance, Dignity Healthy Sock for Soles - Human Kindness,  Second Harvest, Feed the Homeless at our parishes.

The education of children and young people is such an important task in forming them as free and responsible human beings. It arms their dignity as an inalienable gift that flows from our original creation as children made in the image and likeness of God. And because education truly forms human beings, it is especially the duty and responsibility of the Church, who is called to serve mankind from the heart of God and in such a way that no other institution can. - Pope Francis
