School
Extension Program
David
Teherani
I
was born and raised in Santa Cruz. A
product of Catholic rearing and
education. I have earned an
Associate of Arts Degree from
Cabrillo College (1991), passed the
CBEST Exam, received a Bachelor of
Arts Degree from the University of
California at Santa Cruz (1993) and
have completed six graduate school
courses in Administration and
Education at Chapman University in
Monterey while maintaining a 4.0
GPA. I am a life-long member of St.
Joseph's Catholic Community.
My
employment at Good Shepherd began on
August 26, 1998 following my
response to an ad in the church
bulletin for a SEP Aide position.
Currently I am the School Extension
Program (SEP) Director, and a
contributing member of our
Administration Team at Good
Shepherd.
I
really enjoy SEP and I became the
Director of the School Extension
Program in 2001. Our focus is simply
to create and maintain a nurturing,
safe environment where our students
get their homework done, participate
in art projects, play games and have
fun. The School Extension Program
also provides a great opportunity
for our students to develop
socially. It is an environment that
includes students from Kindergarten
through Eighth grade and fosters
relationships across grade
levels.
I
have been an active member of our
Administration Team since 2004. I
really enjoy and appreciate the
opportunity to have input on the
focus and direction of our school. I
work closely with my colleagues,
alumni, students and parents in
order to foster community building
and maintain a nurturing environment
here at Good Shepherd. The staff,
parents and students of Good
Shepherd have truly become my
extended family.
I
really enjoy my role here because it
allows me the opportunity to have a
positive influence in the lives of
our young people and in our
community each and every day. I come
to work with a positive attitude and
try to bring that enthusiasm to our
kids, their parents and my
colleagues. I love what I do and
hope that shows throughout my
relationship building each and every
day.
In
my time away from school I enjoy my
annual trips to Cabo San Lucas,
laying in my hammock, taking nightly
hot tubs, swimming, listening to
audio books, Rush, the 49ers,
Lakers, Sharks, The Olympics and
playing with my pets.
The School Extension Program (SEP) extends the care and education of students beyond the regularly scheduled school hours.
Program
PS/PK students are provided care from 12:00 - 2:30 p.m. daily. K-8 students are provided with snacks, reading/homework time, indoor and outdoor recreational activities, arts & crafts and cooking. There is a 60-minute mandatory homework time each day for students in grades 3-8. Grades 1-2 homework time is 30 minutes. Students are divided into groups according to grade.
Students must be picked up no later than 6:00 p.m.

Parent Involvement
Family
Service Hours
This program is to encourage family involvement at Good Shepherd School, Pre-school through 8th grade. Each family is required to contribute to the welfare of the school with a minimum number of volunteer hours as follows:
|
35 hours
|
All families of children in grades Kindergarten
through Eighth.
|
|
25 hours
|
All families of children in PreSchool and/or
PreKindergarten only.
|
Service hours may be accumulated in many ways: coaching sports teams, keeping the scorebook or the clock at basketball or volleyball games, driving on field trips, school maintenance, helping teachers in the classroom or at home, attending PC meetings, donating usable items needed by the school, providing refreshments for parties, participating in the fundraising activities during the year, donating new books to the library, participating in the SCRIP
program, etc.
Families who choose not to honor their contracted commitment are assessed a
$25.00 per hour charge. This money is tax-deductible and will be put into the general school fund.
Service hours/fees must be served/paid in full by May 15 of each calendar year.

SCRIP Program
The SCRIP Program is an easy and consistent source of gaining revenue for the school. It is one of our major fund-raisers and we strongly recommend your use of the SCRIP Program. The program consists of buying gift certificates in various amounts for stores where you shop on a regular basis. It costs no extra money.
See a list of participating businesses.
Hot Lunch Program
Traditionally, the Parent Club sponsors a hot lunch program on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Lunches must be pre-ordered (an order form is sent home monthly). On other days, students bring a lunch from home. Students who arrive at school without lunch will be provided with a "basic" lunch from the school pantries. A charge of five dollars ( $5) will be added to your bill for this service. Healthy lunches are encouraged. Glass containers are discouraged. Please do not send your child to school with lunches that need to be cooked or heated as equipment for this service is not available. Likewise, provide plastic spoons and forks as necessary.
