Academic
Enrichment ~ the Annual Giving Fund
The success of each year’s Annual
Giving campaign has a direct impact on
the school’s ability to support and
expand the high quality of programs and
faculty that affect the lives of our
children.
Good Shepherd values the entire
community and seeks participation in the
Annual Fund from all constituencies,
including the Board of Trustees, faculty
and staff, parents, alumni, grandparents
and other friends of the school.100%
family participation is always our goal!
We ask each family to donate at a level
appropriate to their circumstances. All
gifts, at every level, are warmly
appreciated and offer tangible benefits
to our students.

Q.
|
Why
does Good Shepherd need an
Annual Funds when tuition is
already being paid?
|
|
A.
|
Revenue
from tuition covers most,
but not all, operating
expenses. Proceeds from the
Annual Fund at Good Shepherd
are directed to strategic
educational priorities as
identified by the Board,
staff and faculty.
|
|
|
Q.
|
Why not
increase tuition and
eliminate the Annual Fund?
|
|
A.
|
Keeping
tuition as low as possible
and asking for the generous,
tax deductible support of
families and other
constituencies gives GSCS a
stronger and more diverse
student population.
Additionally, increases in
tuition are not
tax-deductible.

|
|
Q.
|
On what
items are Annual Fund
contributions typically
spent?
|
|
A.
|
Faculty
and staff continuing
education and professional
development.
Updating
materials and programs.
Enrichment
across the curriculum,
especially in language arts,
science, social studies,
math and technology.
Supplies
and equipment for the arts
and physical education,
including the athletic
programs.
|
|
|
Q.
|
What
are included in operating
expenses?
|
|
A.
|
Critical
operating expenses include:
71%
Salaries and benefits.
19%
Facility enhancements, taxes
and insurance, and
maintenance.
6.5%
Classroom supplies and
student activities.
3.5%
Financial aid.
|
|
|
Q.
|
Why not
reduce operating expenses?
|
|
A.
|
Good
Shepherd has a long history
of fiscal prudence and
careful stewardship of its
budget. Salaries and
benefits are the largest
expenses, and Good Shepherd
must have sufficient funding
to attract and retain highly
qualified teachers. Faculty
compensation must be
competitive and capable of
supporting a reasonable
lifestyle, family and
housing.
|
|
|
Q.
|
How
much should we give each
year?
|
|
A.
|
We ask
that your annual
contribution is meaningful
to you, and to the best of
your ability. Only you can
determine the size of your
gift, but please be as
generous as possible each
year. Your contributions
make tangible benefits
available for all students
at Good Shepherd.
